Cervical Screening Update

 Cervical Screening Update

From 1st July 2025, routine cervical screening for women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 49 will change to every 5 years – but only if you test negative for high-risk HPV (hrHPV) at your next screen.

–          Studies show this change is safe – 5-year screening is just as effective as 3-year screening for those who test negative for hrHPV.

–          You’ll still be invited for screening based on the schedule from your last test.

–          If you test positive for HPV or have cell changes, the care pathway stays the same (yearly tests or hospital checks if needed).

This change follows expert review and is backed by the Department of Health.

Regular screening saves lives – please attend when invited.
